From a portrait series of strong women at San Diego Comic Con
Melissa Moorer, of San Diego, Calif., cosplays as Captain America. "The new Wonder Woman movie has made me feel stronger and more accepted in a male-dominated culture, and more respected now than ever," said Moorer. "[Growing up] I had Barbie and that's all I knew, and it wasn't until later in life that I sought out stronger females.... I feel like a lot of women's roles are dominated by sex, which guys might want to see, but women are looking for more females to be strong and you don't have to take your clothes off to be strong.... I'm excited to see what those female superhero roles will look like in five or ten years, and hopefully more little girls will be okay aspiring to be them."
