CLEVELAND, OH - JANUARY 22, 2016: Christopher Snyder, a drug information pharmacist at the Cleveland Clinic, checks new drugs in to the hospital's computer system before delivering them to technicians for adding to the pharmacy's stock. New drugs, which the hospital's system does not recognize, arrive for different reasons: sometimes the least expensive option is out of stock but a similar drug can replace it, or during shortages a special order must be placed after consulting with administering physicians to determine possible substitutes.
